Mexico accuse US of trade violation

Mexico has accused the United States of violating the North American Free Trade Agreement, NAFTA, by deciding not to import an extra twenty-five thousand tonnes of Mexican sugar.

In a statement released on Thursdaythe Mexican government said the US will import just over a million tonnes of sugar from other countries, despite a commitment under NAFTA to give Mexico preferential access to the American market.

The statement said Mexico will be taking up the matter with a NAFTA disputes panel.
