Venezuela jail riot 'controlled'
Venezuelan officials say they have restored order in a jail where a riot left eight inmates dead and 15 injured.

National Guard troops were called in after fighting broke out between rival groups in the Puente Ayala prison, 250km (160 miles) from Caracas.

Officials are discussing moving several gang leaders to different jails.

Correspondents say that in recent weeks hunger strikes have been reported in several prisons in Venezuela in protest at overcrowding and poor conditions.

Another prison riot earlier this year left at least 10 inmates dead.
