Colombia car bomb outside electricity company A car bomb has exploded in the Colombian city of Medellin, injuring one person and causing widespread damage to nearby buildings. It's the latest in a series of such explosions in recent weeks. The blast happened outside the headquarters of a state-owned electricity generating company. The police say the country's second biggest guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army or ELN, was behind the attack. The rebels, who oppose the government's plans to privatise the electricity company, have been blamed for sabotaging more than a hundred power lines this year. Officials say such continued attacks could mean large areas of Colombia will soon face electricity rationing. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
