Colombia medics 'freed by rebels'

The government accuses Farc rebels of kidnapping the team

Twelve members of a medical team kidnapped in Colombia at the weekend by suspected left-wing Farc rebels have been released, the army says.

The doctors, dentists and nurses were working in a remote jungle area in Putumayo, near the Ecuadorean border.

The 12 are reported to be in good health - a 13th member of the team is reportedly still missing.

The Colombian government called the incident a violation of international humanitarian law.

The Farc, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, have also been accused of attacking ambulances in the area.

The rebels - who have been involved in a four-decade long conflict with government forces and right-wing paramilitaries - are believed to be holding hundreds of hostages.
