In quotes: Verdict reaction
Convicted 9/11 plotter Zacarias Moussaoui should spend his life in prison without the chance of parole instead of being executed, a US jury has decided.

Below is a selection of US and international reaction to the verdict.

Zacarias Moussaoui

America you lost... I won.

George W Bush, US President

The end of this trial represents the end of this case, but not an end to the fight against terror.

The enemy that struck our shores on September 11 is still active, and remains determined to kill Americans.

We will stay on the offensive against the terrorists. We will end their ability to plot and plan. We will deny them safe haven and the ability to gain weapons of mass murder.

We have had many victories, yet there is much left to do, and I will not relent in this struggle for the freedom and security of the American people.

And we can be confident. Our cause is right, and the outcome is certain: justice will be served.

Evil will not have the final say. This great nation will prevail.

Rosemary Dillard, who lost her husband in the attacks

What the jury came up with today and his sentencing is not going to be what all the families want.

But what it shows the world is that we are not going to stand for terrorists to come into our country and to be let lose.

He will be in confinement. He will not be released and we can all take pleasure or gratitude in that. He's a bad man, but we have a fair society.

Carrie Lemack, who lost her mother in the attacks

He will be in jail for the rest of his life...

We felt like justice has been done... I'm glad that he has got what he has deserved.

David Beamer, who lost his son in the attacks

Personally I'm disappointed. My son didn't see his 33rd birthday.

They [the jury] did their job and so be it.

Paul McNaulty, Virginia's Deputy Attorney General

The testimony of the defendant was deeply offensive.

But though it all, the victims have triumphed over the terrorist's rants with their strength, their courage and their character.

We have been inspired by their bravery and blessed by their support. These proceedings have given voice to their victims.

Abraham Scott, who lost his wife in the attacks

I do know the jury made the right decision...

Justice has been served today.

Pascal Clement, French Justice Minister

I take note of this verdict, pronounced by an independent court in a sovereign country.

I recall that, during a meeting with my American counterpart on 3 March, I solemnly recalled France's position against the death penalty to him.
