The fire have been raging for several days
Firefighters battling a huge wildfire in California say they hope to bring it under control over the weekend.

The 10,000-acre (4,000-ha) fire raging near Anaheim was nearly 75% contained by early Friday, the Orange County fire department said in a statement.

"It's the first time there was no increase in acreage," a fire department spokesman Stephen Miller said.

Some 2,000 firefighters have been battling the blaze ignited by remnants of a control burn several days ago.

Firefighters said they hoped to fully contain the fire in the Cleveland National Forest by Sunday night, Mr Miller said.

The blaze - sparked by the poorly extinguished burn by the US Forest Service - was not threatening residential homes, officials said.

The firefighting effort has cost more than $5m and the final bill would nearly double, officials predicted.

"Since we're responsible for the fire, we're going to pay for the bill," local Forest Service fire chief Richard Hawking was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency.
