New Orleans evacuee hits jackpot
A New Orleans storm victim has won a $1.6m jackpot at a Louisiana casino.

Jacquelyn Sherman had paid $4.25 into the slot machines at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino.

The 57-year-old retired librarian has been staying in her sister's home in Opelousas since Katrina devastated New Orleans and left her homeless.

Ms Sherman said would like to spend her winnings on a new home. "My feeling about this win is better than being blessed," she said. "Thank you, Lord."

"I am a casino fanatic, it relaxes my nerves," she said.

"I like winning but I never expected to win like this."
