Miss Peru loses title

The winner of this year's Miss Peru contest has been stripped of her title for not telling the truth about former such awards.

Rosa Elvira Cartagena, who was to represent Peru in the Miss World contest later this year, had claimed she won a prize in an earlier contest Miss Amber International.

But it has since emerged that this was a lie.

Miss Cartagena's trophies -- a crown and sash -- had already been stolen by burglars before the decision was announced taking away her title.
