Bush tightens US embargo on Cuba

US President George W Bush has ordered tighter enforcement of the embargo against Cuba.

He had expanded the government's role to prevent the unauthorised departure of ships for the Caribbean island.

The president signed an order to empower US authorities to inspect any vessel in US territorial waters.

Mr Bush said Cuba had tried to harm relations with the US by threatening to rescind migration accords and to close the US interests section in Havana.
