Police swoop on Bonanno 'family'
US and Canadian police officers seized more than two dozen suspects in what they are calling the biggest-ever swoop on a New York organised crime ring.

The alleged boss of the Bonanno crime family, Anthony "Tony Green" Urso, and his alleged second-in-command are among those arrested in the city.

In Montreal, police acting on a US request seized Vito Rizzuto, said to be the "Godfather of Canada".

He is wanted in connection with murders which inspired the film Donnie Brasco.

Among the charges against those arrested were murder, conspiracy and other crimes.

"Today's indictment caps a yearlong series of indictments that represent the broadest and deepest prosecution ever of a New York City-based organized crime family," said US Attorney Roslynn Mauskopf on Wednesday.
