In pictures: World Trade Center plans

Two plans have now been short listed for the site of the World Trade Center, destroyed in the 11 September terror attacks.

One is by Daniel Libeskind, who designed Berlin's Jewish Museum, and the other by the international Think team, led by New York-based architects Rafael Vinoly and Frederic Schwartz.

Seven other designs were short listed but did not make the final.

Studio Libeskind

The first finalist, Studio Libeskind - designed a 1,776 ft high tower overlooking several smaller steel towers

The second, by the international Think team, features two decorative steel towers

And those that did not make the final:

A second design from the Think team - the sky park - did not reach the final...

... nor did this one, called The Great Room, which has a vast covered public plaza

Foster and partners

Sir Norman Foster's concept features two interlocking buildings and was considered by many to be the favourite

Richard Meier

Richard Meier's design featured an L-shaped series of towers intersected by three walkways

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill

This proposal had featured a group of nine buildings, each about 80 storeys high

United Architects

United Architects had proposed five towers surrounding a memorial space

Peterson Littenberg

Peterson Littenberg proposed twin 1,400 ft towers with a large memorial park in the middle
