US mafia boss John Gotti - who died on Monday - has been buried in New York, as hundreds of onlookers watched a huge and colourful funeral procession of the legendary mobster.

Gotti died of cancer at a federal prison hospital while serving a life sentence.

People lined the streets to watch the 100-car procession

Flower arrangements represented - among other things - a royal flush and Cuban cigars

Pallbearers even mounted a huge floral tribute in the shape of a horse

Two Victorias - Gotti's wife (r) and daughter - were among the mourners, but his brothers and son were in prisons

The service was held at the Papavero Funeral Home in Queens, New York

Gotti was interred in a crypt in St Johns Cemetery - a Roman Catholic burial ground for a number of mafiosi
