Suspect indicted in Pearl killing
Breaking News
The British suspect in the killing in Pakistan of American journalist Daniel Pearl has been indicted in the United States on charges of kidnapping.

Sheikh Omar Saeed was indicted by a federal grand jury in Newark, New Jersey, on two counts: one of hostage taking and one of conspiring to take hostages resulting in the death of Pearl.

Authorities in Pakistan are also keen to prosecute Sheikh Omar, and have indicated that they would only hand him over once a trial had been conducted there.

Pearl, who worked for the Wall Street Journal, disappeared on 23 January from the city of Karachi after reportedly researching links between alleged shoe bomber Richard Reid and Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network.

His body has never been found.
