Hillary visits hurricane-hit Puerto Rico

Hillary Clinton has been visiting Puerto Rico to survey the damage done by Hurricane Georges, which hit the island last week.

Mrs Clinton and a delegation from the United States Congress flew over the affected areas and then visited a school where hundreds of people are being given temporary shelter.

The Puerto Rican authorities estimate that the hurricane caused two-billion dollars' worth of damage.

President Clinton has already declared the island a disaster area, making it eligible for US federal funds.

Mrs Clinton was due to travel on to Chile to join other first ladies of the Americas, who are discussing the social problems affecting the continent.
