Rio airport renamed after Ipanema composer

The Brazilian Senate has voted to rename Rio de Janeiro's international airport after the bossa nova composer, Antonio Carlos "Tom" Jobim.

Mr Jobim composed "The Girl From Ipanema", a celebration of the Rio beach and its bathers, which is probably Brazil's most recognised tune.

His sudden death in 1994 was mourned throughout the country.

The airport will become known as Aeroporto Internacional Tom Jobim after final approval from the country's president after October's election.
