A bus and a lorry carrying tomatoes have crashed head-on in the south of Peru, leaving at least 12 people dead and more than 20 others injured.

Peruvian police said the accident happened in thick fog near Nazca, more than 300km south-east of Lima.

The injured are being treated in hospitals in the nearby city of Ica.
