'Hero' security guard disappears with $5.6m

A security guard in Venezuela who was recently rewarded for foiling an armed robbery is being sought by police after disappearing with more than $5m.

Last month, the guard, Alexander Ugas, received praise from his bosses and a $1,400 reward for foiling an armed hold-up.

But a large sum of money has now been offered for Mr Ugas's capture after he absconded on Tuesday while delivering $5.6m, in one of the largest heists of its kind in Venezuela.

Police believe he threw the money from the back of a security van to accomplices following behind.
