Summit leaders urge Haiti reform

The thirty-four leaders attending the Summit of the Americas urged the Haitian president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, to act quickly to resolve the political crisis in Haiti.

They called on him to honour his promises to end the deadlock in negotiations with opposition parties that followed last years' elections, which were widely condemned as flawed.

Correspondents say the presence of Mr Aristide at the summit has been an embarrassment to some of the leaders, who agreed that only democratic countries would be included in the Free Trade Zone of the Americas.
