Security alert around White House
There was a brief security alert around the White House in Washington after an unattended package was found in the grounds of a building opposite Blair House. The area was cordoned off and secret service agents and bomb disposal experts examined the package. It turned out to be innocuous and is believed to have been left by a homeless person. The area has now been reopened. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
