Ecuador Indians suspend talks with government
Leaders of the indigenous Indian movement in Ecuador have broken off talks with the government aimed at resolving outstanding differences over economic policy. A spokeswoman for the Indian movement, CONAIE Rosita Alvarado, told the BBC they would only return to the discussions after a meeting with the president, Gustavo Noboa. She accused the government of ignoring their demands. The talks began in February after two weeks of nationwide protests by the Indians against increases in fuel prices and taxes.
