Cuban violinist dies on stage
A member of the Cuban band, Buena Vista Social Club, has died after collapsing on stage in Basel, Switzerland. The musician, Pedro Depestre, who was fifty-five, collapsed after performing a violin solo. He could not be revived despite being treated by a doctor who was in the audience. The band members, some of whom are in their seventies and eighties, cancelled a concert they were due to perform today Monday in Cologne. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
