DR Congo warns Uganda

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has accused neighbouring Uganda of seeking to exploit Congo's natural resources.

The Congolese Economy Minister Victor Mpoyo told the BBC that his government was trying to regulate cross-border trade through tariffs, and that this was being opposed by the Ugandans.

Last week, the authorities in Kinshasa cancelled a regional summit as it became clear that Uganda and other countries were unlikely to attend.

Correspondents say Uganda was one of the main backers of the campaign which last year brought the current Congolese leadership to power, but relations between the two countries have become increasingly strained.
