UN appeal for displaced people
The United Nations is appealing for about seventy million dollars, to help thousands of people displaced in the Ethiopia-Eritrea border war. A UN mission which has visited the area says the money will be used to help people of both countries rebuild their lives by helping in de-mining operations, farming, building and school materials. The mission says although many people fled Eritrea during the offensive, many moved to other parts of the country, and it is these internally displaced people who now need help. Meanwhile in Algiers, foreign ministers of Ethiopia and Eritrea have begun a new round of peace talks aimed at turning the current cease fire into a final peace accord.
