Hotel manager released from detention in DR Congo

The security forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo have released the Dutch manager of a big hotel in the capital, Kinshasa, who was arrested overnight after weapons and ammunition were found in one of the hotel's rooms.

The manager of the Memling Hotel, Cornelius Bik, was reportedly taken to the offices of the National Security Council during his detention.

The weapons were found in a room occupied by the hotel's technical director, Freddy Salverius, a Belgian.

A security official was quoted as saying that Mr Salverius had contacts with representatives of the ousted government of the late President Mobutu.
