DR Congo releases human rights worker
An international human rights worker arrested by the authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been released and has flown out of Kinshasa airport. The man, Suliman Ali Baldo, a senior researcher for the American-based Human Rights Watch group, was detained for questioning on Friday as he prepared to fly to New York following a three-week mission. Correspondents say Human Rights Watch has frequently criticised the Congo authorities for alleged human rights abuses. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
