Seventy-two drowned in Tanzania bus accident

Police in Tanzania say seventy-two people are now known to have drowned on Monday when the bus they were travelling in was swept into a river in the northern Tanga region.

Tanzanian radio said the accident happened as the bus was crossing a bridge on its way to the capital, Dar es Salaam.

In the city itself, seven people were killed over the weekend -- and thousands were left homeless -- after flooding caused by heavy rain.
