China in $10bn loan pledge to Africa

The Chinese premier, Wen Jiabao, has promised $10bn in new loans to African countries over the next three years.

He said Beijing also planned to cancel government debts for some of the poorest of those countries, and to invest in clean energy projects across the continent.

China has already invested tens of billions of dollars in African economies.
