The following is reproduced from the first document obtained by Mark Doyle allegedly linking Liberia with gun running and diamond-smuggling to rebels in Sierra Leone.

SIERRA LEONE POLICE SPECIAL BRANCH

INTELLIGENCE REPORT

Report date: 5th June, 2000

Date intelligence received: 5/6/2000

Subject: ACCOMPLICES TO AND RUF STANCE IN THE SIERRA LEONE CRISIS.

Intelligence:

The Revolutionary United Front (RUF) of Sierra Leone has no plans to stop fighting and give peace a chance in Sierra Leone, because of the major support Burkina Faso and Liberia provide.

2. MERCENARIES AND WEAPONS

(a) On 1/6/2000, the RUF high command in Liberia reportedly sent two trips of truck loads of arms and ammunition, i.e. large quantity of R.P.G tubes and bombs, ammo and spare magazines for AK 47 rifles etc. to Kailahun.

(b) That all weapons sent to Kono District from Burkina Faso through Monrovia are for the protection of the district and Tongo Fields.

(c) That Mercenaries currently in Kono will start a full scale offensive in July, 2000 and are always moving in and out of the district to Liberia and other unnamed countries.

(d) That the 4,000 fighters currently undergoing training at the A.T.U. BATALA MILITARY Training camp, in GBANGA, LIBERIA are still at their base.

(e) That a large scale diamond mining is being done in Kono, with production very successful.

(f) About eight (8) Serbian Mercenaries (Snipers) will be arriving Conakry enroute to Freetown on a recceing mission posing as businessmen. But plans are afoot (by contact) to have them arrested in Conakry, Guinea.
