John Atta Mills: Your questions

President John Atta Mills of Ghana at the Yamoussoukro airport

Have you got a question for President John Atta Mills?

The man known as "the Prof" was finally elected in Ghana in December - at his third attempt. But having got the top job, what has he done with his first 100 days in power?

Has his academic background in finance helped him steer Ghana through the global downturn? What of his election promises - to boost security, improve roads and develop agriculture?

Will President Atta Mills emerge as a Pan-African leader? What stance should he take on Sudan, Zimbabwe and Somalia?

What would you like to ask the President of Ghana? What should he do with his next 100 days?

If you would like to join Africa Have Your Sayand put your questions to the President LIVE on air on Thursday 7 May at 1600 GMT, please include a telephone number. It will not be published. You can also send an SMS text message to +44 77 86 20 20 08.

Serwaa, Accra, Ghana

Mr President, I would like to ask your stance as African leader about killing of innocent civilians in Western Sudan or Darfur?
Lual, Sydney, Australia

Your first 100 days in power have been overshadowed with the call for formal ministers to return state cars. Mr President, I was wondering whether your administration would do something about the road infrastructure instead of spending a good 100 days demanding that cars be returned when the road are not in the best form?
Gway, Adidome, Ghana

Dear Prof. Will you intervene on the situation in Somalia or not because i know in the case of our country problems you will solve them which is a fact to me.
GUMAH, matanzas, Cuba

Mr President, With my deepest respect to you, how do you expect me as a Ghanaian to invest in a country that looks unstable with all the misguided comments from Rawlings that seems to dividing the country. Let alone foreign investors. Are you in control? Or, why do fail to rain in those in your party who are so vindictive that their actions are creating disrespect to your presidency?
Akwasi, Toronto

Ask Mr.Mills what he intends doing to create jobs for Ghanaians apart from seizing toilets, car parks and discrediting former Pre. Kuffour for creating the National Youth Employment Programme which has created thousands of job.
Fiifi, Accra

Mr President, what are your plans in tackling high crimes, arm robbery, drug traffic and all the bad vices that is discouraging potential investors from investing in Ghana?

I just want to commend the president on his willingness to appear on air live to answer whatever questions are thrown at him. He is truly a shining light for other African leaders as he opens himself to criticism and accountability.
Patience, Washington DC

Mr. president,I've always paid close attention to the problems of Africa, So I'd like to know what you are going to do to tackle Aids more efficiently?

Eder, Lima, Peru

Mr. President, have you ever heard an African nation held hostage to the will of the world since Sam Ko fi Atta Mills was born? This is Somaliland, my home country, stable, democratic and ambitious but unrecognized for no reason. What is your stance of Somaliland as a lawyer and as an African leader?

Hamse, Hargeisa, Somaliland

Mr. President, Please let us face reality, Ghana is face with corruption at all levels. You can't do anything without paying bribe. The police system is infested with corruption, rule of law is dead as welll. In this regards what are you doing to restore honesty?

What is your view on the poorest nation in sub-saharan Africa with income per capita of $110US per person at the same time having to fund the richest black man on the face of the earth? Isn't the job of the government to protect the poor and those who need protection? What would be your message to tyrants like Meles of Ethiopia feeding the world with their cooked double digit economic growth while creating chaoes in the region by invading their neighbours and mass starving their people and persecuting any democratic and peace loving citizen who opposes their tyrant ehnic based and unelected regime?

Hello Mr President, what programs do you have to ensure that all children of school going age in Ghana have access to the internet and affordable computers. This is the age of access, and if Ghanaian students are to be competitive on the global level, then these basic skills and tools are very necessary.
Eric, Nashville, USA

joseph, ghana kumasi

Mr. President, l want to know if you would you ever use the new Presidential palace and when?
Kwasi, Accra, Ghana

Can you prove to me that you are your own man and that jerry rawlings is not the ''main man'' in the realm of affairs as,he holds meetings with state security at his own will, criticises you for being too slow, he is now leading government delegation to Zuma's inauguration? Prove to us that we have one and only one president
Nana, accra

Prof, I'm afraid the government machinery will grind to a halt, if your so called lean govt policy is not reviewed anytime soon. Your NDC party grassroot supporters are gnashing their teeth and getting disillusioned over lack of jobs and limited opportunities for personal development. Remember they worked very hard for you to get this far. It was not by your might that you became the president, it was rather on the goodwill of your supporters that you are whom you are today. God bless you!
Emmanuel, Gambaga, Ghana

mr president, i was taught in school that the civil service is neutral to any government in power.why is your government politicising the civil service by appointing your party members to various positions.
markin, london

Many Ghanaians are aware of the extensive misuse of national resources by the NPP gov and I believe it is the reason why you campaigned on the promise to bring culprits responsible for this gross misuse to book. Don't you think that it has taken you too long to at least show some clear signals on this matter?
Emmanuel, Accra, Ghana

Mr. President please time is running and when would your Gov't start prosecuting ex-govt alleged corrupt officials who were shielded by their Boss JA Kufour. At that why I voted for you, seeing how they lived luxuriously daily.
KOFI, Agona-Nkwanta

Ouborr, Zabzugu-Tatale

President Mills I would like to ask what is your stance on Zimbabwe? Would you ask the AU to take a tougher stance on Mugabe or at least Condemn him rather than the silence from Kufour?
Stuart, Whitehill, UK

JAK at his 1st 100 days had made more than 10 foreign trips reducing the presidency to a guest of all functions in the globe and only God knows the cost. Will you and your ministers become guests of ALL functions in the GLOBE? Lastly when will the road linking the north and south through Yendi, Nkwanta Jasikan be constructed?
Abugri, Jasikan, Ghana

My concern is on albinism am an albino and i read from one of your local newspaper that there is a community that uses albinos as sacrifices to the gods as a form of tradition. I went further and asked my Ghanaian friends and they confessed its happening what are you doing to eradicate such `traditions that don't value the dignity of humanity? i will highly appreciate your feedback.
jane, nairobi, kenya

How will you describe your relationships with your two former predecessors (Rawlings and Kufuor)? Do you think Rawlings should be given a major and specific role in your administration? Is there conflict between you and Rawlings, or it's just media speculation? Good luck on your visit to he UK.
Senior, Nottingham, UK

My Dear Mr President, when will the spintex road and the Teshie-Nungua road be constructed because the traffic is killing making us very tired before we get to work and also get home in the evening very tired. mr president do something on these roads before it is too late. God richly bless you and see you through all your endeavours and i will always love you.
Akai, Accra, Ghana

Mr President, what are you doing to make Ghanaians take personal and individual responsibility to build Ghana? No matter how good your economic policies are, if the common/average/individual in Ghana does not make up their mind to be honest and shun corrupt practices, you can not move Ghana forward. If your police men, nurses, doctors, teachers, customs officers, and all civil servants etc do not discharge their duties diligently but take bribes, and don't do the hours they are supposed to do etc., Ghana can not move forward, and the trouble is, you will get all the blame. So what are you doing to get your people to work hard?
Charles, Stuttgart, Germany

Whilst Ghana's southern region represents a flourishing African nation to the rest of the world, the Northern Region - particularly areas surrounding Tamale - are struggling for survival. Previous Presidents have ignored the northern region in an attempt to attract more benefits for the southern region. What are you going to do to focus attention where it is most needed - in Northern Ghana. Further, how are you going to fulfil the government's promise for universal primary education for all - something which little is being done to achieve in the Northern region. Thankyou.
Sasha, London, UK

Why are you going to the UK? You criticised the previous of travelling a lot . My question is are you going to travel a lot to get investors or sit back and rely on domestication ? What will be your justification for travelling outside when you spoke strongly against your predecessor's travels.
Benson, Aboadze, Ghana

I am curious to know what Mr. Prez is doing to stop the rampant seizure of cars and property from former NPP government officials. There must be a more civil way to re-claim government property.
Amma, Tema, Ghana

As a frequent visitor to Greater Accra, I am concerned by the apparent transport problems. The majority of vehicles are the 'throw-outs' from Holland, Germany, and -even- the USA. The trucks seem to break down frequently, and, because of their poor condition, contribute to high levels of air pollution. Surely, something has to be done to stop Europeans profiting by selling 'rubbish' to Ghana? Maybe the Chinese would be interested in setting up a car plant in Ghana, providing jobs for Ghanaians, and new, affordable vehicles. This obruni wants to see Ghana, and her people flourish!

Mike, Wakefield, England

Mt President, in context of global financial meltdown and dwindling value of Ghanaian exports and the Cedis, would you increase the local VAT rate in order to boost government revenue? What level of burden do you think your choice would have on the average Ghana-based Ghanaian?
Yinka, Leiden, Holland

When will you Government start prosecuting the corrupt NPP officials?
Abdulsalam, Alajo, Ghana

Dear Mr President, I am one of your admirers and I believe Strongly that you can deliver. However I would like to state that you should remain focused on the complex tasks ahead of you. Don't allow the old guard in your party to destroy or interfere with your work, don't hesitate to FIRE anyone who under performs or gets him/herself in corruption. Finally sir, tell Ghanaians the truth and nothing but the truth. May God bless you and may God bless our homeland Ghana.
Kwaku, Accra, Ghana

Mr President, what specifically are your plans for addressing the deteriorating security situation in the country?
Bayeriba, Cambridge, England

What is he doing about the jubilee house and will he occupy it also what about the former ministers and the car issue. please this is an embarrassment to the nation. nowhere in the world does former ministers take home state property.the world donors are watching. what is your solution to this. thank you.
Nana, baldwin USA

Ghana is endowed with the best climate, best ports, hard working people and reasonably educated public. Why don't you establish Ghana as the brain power in Africa by improving the technical education capabilities? Just like India is supplying the brain for the world research.
Chandru, USA

President Mills must urge British investors to show commitment to the development of Ghana by investing in agro-based projects. It is becoming too easy for British investors to get involved in the 'get rich quick' sectors, telecom ,banking oil etc. What Ghana really need to 'take off' is agricultural revolution, livestock, crop production, food processing and marketing. The over concentration on cocoa is leaving us hungry and poor.
Kwame, London, UK

Mr President, Welcome Back Home to London. It is emerging from Ghana that some, if not most of your nominated Municipal and/or District Chief Executives (M/DCEs) whose positions have to be confirmed by voting, are being rejected simply because some of the local people think that they do not hail from those Municipalities or Districts. Mr President, do you therefore, regret for telling the people of the Central Region (especially, your ethnic Fantes), during your electioneering campaign that they should vote massively for you on the 7 December 2008 presidential election because you are their kinsman or forcefully put in Fante Language: "Ade Wo fie a Oye- meaning, it is their turn to have a "Fante President?"

Asante, London, UK

Am ivorian/Ghanaian based in abidjan. what i really want to ask Mr president is, what are you going to do for youth who only has secondary school education?
Daniel, Abidjan, Cote D' Ivoire

When will his party supporters stop the persecution of the previous government, and bring peace and harmony to our beloved nation? How is this government going to deal with armed robbers?
kojo, london, england

What policies are in place to ensure that local rice production will not be hindered by the relatively cheap subsidised foreign imported rice into the country. In a larger context, my question is applicable to farming in general.
Manuel, Gravesend, UK

Prof, when are you nominating a District Chief Executive for Bunkpurugu / Yunyoo District and please remember to work on the road from Walewale to Bunkpurugu. Thx
Emmanuel, Gambaga, Ghana

Why do you allow Rawlings to control your government? You need to stop him for the sake of unity in the Country. We Ghanaian abroad see Rawlings in control and he wants to come back with coup. Long Live Ghana
Mohammed Anwo, USA

Then Candidate Mills promised in his Party's manifesto to ensure Parliament pass the Right to Information Bill within his first 100 days in office. But this did not materialise. Could President Mills explain why? Secondly, some have raised concerns that the 70 days stated in the bill for one to obtain information is too long and must be reduced to 10 days, what are his comments on this?
Jerry, Accra, Ghana

Please have you spoken to ex president Kufuor since you assumed office why are you embarrassing him by ceasing all state cars in his possession?
manuel, accra, ghana

Dear Mr. President, I would like to know how you and your team are bracing for the ripples of the global financial downturn on Ghana...specifically the impact on government revenues - as commodity prices are expected to fall and budgetary pressures are expected from rising interest rates.
Ehui, Washington DC, USA

A BBC report said a study by a group of scientists had found evidence of an impending 'mega drought' in the future. the study was carried out at lake bosomtwi. what measures are your government taking to deal with the effects of the drought, i.e. food storage and reliable supply of good drinking water to the people of ghana?
kwabena, accra, ghana

The three old enemies of the country are creeping back, namely, depreciation of the Cedi, inflation and unemployment. What measures do you have to solve these threatening problems?
James, Berlin, Germany

I am a Ghanaian citizen currently residing in the U.S.A. Over the years I have had many family members and friends die from being struck by automobiles. Usually the drivers of the vehicles are blamed but I suspect it is the poor quality of cars currently being sent to Ghana. My question is, would the President take on the responsibility of regulating this industry so that better quality cars go to Ghana at a lower rate?
Ibrahim, NJ, USA

Mr President what is the relation between you and former President Kufour, are you aware of the car takeover brouhaha what do you make of it?
Kwaku, Accra, Ghana

How does your government plan on including on-the-ground technologies to ensure that development plans are carried out efficiently?
Joseph, Cambridge, MA, US

What are you doing with increasing food prices, fall in value of cedi and rising tide of ethnic intolerance?
kwaku, Amoako, Kade

The "Prof" had a fantastic platform during the elections but the legacy in Africa is that politicians say or write one thing and do another. Elections manifestos are never look at ounce in power. Which policies is he adjusting to tackle the financial meltdown? Unemployment and brain dream is a major problem in Africa especially Ghana, is the "Prof" working on creating jobs for the many university graduates? How is he tackling poverty? Will he not change is election manifesto on the recent oil boom? I hope he make a change!!!!
Sakama, Melbourne, Au.
