UN to send team to Sri Lanka war zone

The UN is to send a humanitarian team to northern Sri Lanka, where thousands of civilians are trapped by fighting.

Sri Lanka's government says around 100,000 civilians have fled since Monday, as fighting between government troops and Tamil Tiger rebels continues.

The country's foreign minister has called the crisis an "emergency humanitarian situation".

Jonathan Twigg reports.
