Summit between DR Congo enemies
A surprise summit has taken place of the leaders of opposing sides in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Congo president, Laurent Kabila, met his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, who until recently had been the most prominent supporter of the rebellion against Mr Kabila. In a statement after their talks in Eldoret, in western Kenya they promised to promote peace and to restore bi-lateral relations. A BBC correspondent says it could mark a remarkable turnaround in relations between former enemies. Congo has frequently accused Rwanda of aggression and invading its territory.
