Israeli escapes Ghana kidnappers

An Israeli businessman kidnapped in Ghana almost a week ago has escaped unharmed from his captors.

There are reports he was freed by Ghanaian security forces with the help of Israeli police.

Other reports say he simply slipped away from his captors in a taxi and then called the police.

The Jerusalem Post named the man as Dror Weinstein, a businessman in his 60s. His kidnappers had demanded $500,000 (£300,000) for his release.

The ransom demand was later lowered to $30,000 (£18,000).

Correspondents say kidnappings are rare in Ghana in comparison to oil-rich Nigeria, where there have been hundreds of abductions in recent years.

It is unclear who the kidnappers were and why they chose their target.
