Whole communities have fled fighting in west Darfur - affecting tens of thousands of people. Many went to Jebel Moun - which the UN has not had access to - and into Chad.
A government offensive in February followed earlier rebel attacks and has left dozens dead.
But only recently has a UN team been to see the destruction first-hand. In Abu Sarouj almost 15,000 people were displaced. Some of the burning appears selective.
Women search in the ruins of their homes for anything that might have been spared. There are disturbing reports of continued attacks and rape of women and young girls.
Civilian structures such as this health clinic in Sileia were destroyed. Schools, water systems and aid agency compounds were also looted or destroyed.
Khamisa from Sirba holds her one remaining child. She lost her six other children when armed militias started their attack. She still doesn’t know where they are.
