Mother-of-two Lydia Anyonje, 37, spoke to us from Eldoret, the administrative centre of Rift Valley province. She is a lecturer in Kakamega town in Kenya's Western province.
The situation is very bad. The results were rigged to keep the status quo.
We now have a lot of violence. I am surrounded by people fighting so I am staying in the house.
Yesterday [Sunday] the violence was in town - as well as many other parts of the country. But today it's happening in residential areas.
So I am locked up indoors with my children. We can see smoke from residential buildings from the window.
No-one seems to know what's happening. We saw the police pass the house this morning, but they are not able to contain the people doing the damage because they are armed.
I can hear screams, it's very dangerous. We don't know what will happen next, we don't have much information because the media has been banned from carrying live news on TV or the radio.

I spoke to a friend in the university town of Kakamega and it's the same there; they've got fighting too.
Kenya cannot be peaceful under another Kibaki government; people have rejected him. The opposition leader has told people to be calm and not engage in violence, but they are still doing it. The populace is angry.
I am not hopeful for the near future, because the whole country is descending into violence and lawlessness.
I am afraid it may descend into another Rwanda. Property is being burned, people are being targeted for their tribal groupings.
The international community should step in immediately and decisively to prevent another Rwanda.
