Landslide win for Malagasy leader
President of Madagascar Marc Ravalomanana on voting day, 4 December 2006
President wants greater backing in parliament for his reforms
Official results from parliamentary elections in Madagascar have given the governing party of President Marc Ravalomanana an overwhelming victory.

His I Love Madagascar (TIM) party won 106 seats out of the 127 on a low turnout of fewer than 50%.

Mr Ravalomanana called an early election, saying the National Assembly did not reflect the results of April's constitutional referendum.

Sunday's poll was the third national election since December.

The world's fourth largest island, Madagascar is home to 19.6m people.
