Audio slideshow: Memories of Ghana
Ghana celebrates the 50th anniversary of independence from British rule on 6 March.

The transformation of the country formerly known as the Gold Coast into Ghana was a landmark event for Africa.

London barrister Sam Akwagyiram, 67, was a teenager in Ghana in 1957.

He attended celebrations in the capital Accra where he watched Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah give speeches to usher in the birth of a new nation.
