IOC tells South Africa to try again

The President of the International Olympic Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch, has urged South Africa to make a fresh attempt to host the Olympic Games in the year 2008.

He said he would be pleased to see a bid from Cape Town or another South African city.

Africa is the only continent not to have hosted the Olympics.

The Greek capital, Athens, was chosen over Cape Town for the 2004 Games.
