Sierra Leonean defectors to ECOMOG
Nigerian military forces in Sierra Leone have shown the BBC a new group of seventy soldiers and policemen who they say left the Sierra Leone security services and surrendered to the Nigerian-led West African intervention force, ECOMOG. The BBC West Africa correspondent who was shown the defectors said they appeared genuine and the senior officer among them said he was opposed to the military regime. The Nigerian forces announced the surrender of a first group of nearly nine hundred defectors to ECOMOG last week. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
