Two of the main rebel movements in the Democratic Republic of Congo have warned that the country could soon return to war because of the military actions taken by the country's president Laurent Kabila.

The Movement for the Liberation of Congo accused government forces of bombing its positions and said it would no longer abide by the ceasefire, which came into effect in August.

The Goma wing of the rebel Rally for Democracy RCD has also accused the government of seriously violating the ceasefire and warned its troops would respond if further provoked.

There has been no comment from Mr Kabila's government. A BBC correspondent in the region says the peace process has been marked by endless rows and recriminations and a hugely ambitious timetable has already fallen by the wayside.
