Tunisia has expelled a Swiss member of rights group Amnesty International.
Amnesty say they do not know why Yves Steiner was arrested
Amnesty International in Tunisia said Yves Steiner was arrested on Sunday while attending an annual meeting of the organisation's Tunisian branch.
A Tunisian official said Mr Steiner was invited to leave after violating the law and attacking public order.
Tunisia has often been accused of harassing human rights activists and suppressing independent media - allegations the government denies.
"Plainclothes police took Steiner away without presenting any legal or police documents," an unnamed Amnesty member who was present at a meeting in the capital, Tunis, told AFP news agency.
Mr Steiner was released from police custody later on Sunday and flew to France.
"We have not been able to talk to him directly. We do not know why he was arrested," Swiss-based Amnesty spokesman Manon Schick told AFP.
