DR Congo fever deaths reported

An outbreak of an haemorrhagic fever in the Democratic Republic of Congo has killed at least eight people, including a Ugandan soldier.

The Congolese Health Minister, Mamba Mashako, told a meeting in the capital, Kinshasa, that the deaths occurred in and around Durba, in the north-east of the country.

An outbreak of one form of haemorrhagic disease Marburg fever was reported in the area in May.

The authorities say the latest deaths indicate a recurrence of the May outbreak, in which more than sixty people were reported to have died.
