Further evidence has emerged of the split within the Congolese Rally for Democracy, the RCD.

A former ally of the head of the dissident faction, Wamba dia Wamba, has urged the international community not to allow Mr Wamba to sign the Lusaka peace agreement.

The spokesman, Willy Mishiki, said Mr Wamba had no soldiers, no territory and no political base. Mr Mishiki said Uganda was behind the push for Mr Wamba to sign the peace accord because it wanted to retain influence in Congo. In a separate development, the head of the other main Congolese rebel group, Jean-Pierre Bemba, has alleged that a Sudanese warplane bombed the north-eastern town of Gbadolite earlier today.

He said this proved that President Kabila wasn't serious about peace. Sudan has always denied that it's involved in the Congolese war.
