Boat tragedy in eastern DR Congo
At least 23 people have died in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo when a boat capsized on Lake Kivu on Sunday night.

United Nations spokesman Madnoje Mounoubai in Bukavu said that 43 people have so far been brought to safety, but the rescue operation was continuing.

The motorised canoe was carrying freight and passengers from the town of Kalehe, across Lake Kivu, to Goma. A local resident said he believed some 80 people had been on board.
