Winnie Mandela relaxes with family members outside her house

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela -- who is facing allegations of assault and murder at South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission - has opened the Mandela Family Museum.

Mrs Mandela inaugurated the museum in the home she shared with Nelson Mandela in the black township of Soweto.

At the opening ceremony, she declined to answer questions about the Truth Commission hearings from reporters, offering them food and drinks instead.

Mrs Mandela has denied the assault and murder accusations.

The Winnie Mandela and family museum, in Soweto's Orlando West district, offers tourist souvenirs for sale in a gift shop set up in what was once the garage of the Mandela home.
