Father v. son in DR Congo

One of the rebel leaders fighting the government of Laurent Kabila in the Democratic Republic of Congo, says he will continue his war despite the appointment of his father to Mr Kabila's government.

The rebel leader, Jean-Pierre Bemba, said the appointment of his father, Salaona Bemba, as minister for the economy and energy in a cabinet reshuffle was his own business.

Although correspondents said the appointment of Mr Bemba senior might be an attempt by President Kabila to open up a channel of communications with the rebels, Jean-Pierre Bemba told the BBC he hadn't spoken to his father since he began his rebellion last September.
