The new police chief, Colonel Abdi Hassan Awaale Qeybdid, said the force's main priority was to fight banditry. He appealed to the people of Mogadishu to support its work. He did not say whether the police would try to disarm militiamen still present in the city. The police force was established late last year by the two main faction leaders, Ali Mahdi Mohammed and Hussein Aideed, who have formed a joint administration for Mogadishu. |
