In Pictures: Lagos blast
Rescue efforts continued into Sunday night in Lagos after an explosion shattered buildings and left dozens of people dead and injured.
A huge crowd gathered quickly after the loud blast reverberated across the city
Police and rescue workers arrived to find a scene of devastation in the business district
One building was completely destroyed, another had its facade blown off
Some witnesses said they helped dig out victims with their bare hands
Police resorted to warning shots to keep onlookers out as chaos ensued because of the crowds
There were reports of violence and looting, while some people moved belongings from devastated buildings
Apart from helping to dig out victims, firefighters also found themselves handling large amounts of cash
