In pictures: Nigeria plane crash
Nigerian officials say more than 100 people have been killed after a Nigerian aircraft crashed into a densely populated district of the northern city of Kano.
The plane ploughed through several buildings before coming to a halt and bursting into flames
Reports said people inside the wreckage screamed for help, but rescuers were thwarted by the intensity of the fire
Relatives of the victims waited in despair for the bodies to be brought out of the wreckage
Several houses were completely demolished and shocked local officials spoke of the calamity on the ground
Officials said hospitals were struggling to cope with the flood of dead and wounded
Casualty figures are expected to rise both among the passengers and residents of the area
Local sources say shortly before the crash the captain reported to the control tower he was having engine trouble
