Kabila in Gabon

President Laurent Kabila of the Congo Democratic Republic has met his counterpart in Gabon, Omar Bongo, who's offered to mediate in the civil war.

He was also expected to meet other west African leaders called together by Mr Bongo from Cameroon, Chad, the Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea.

Reports say a Gabonese official has been despatched to Angola to try and persuade President dos Santos to attend.

Angola has sent troops to Congo to support Mr Kabila. Earlier mediation attempts by the OAU and the SADC have failed.
