Lome mayor in corruption probe

The mayor of the Togolese capital, Lome, has been arrested on charges of corruption.

Amousouvi Akakpo is being investigated over allegations of fraud amounting to more than two million dollars last year.

Mr Akakpo's deputy and a number of other high ranking officials have also being questioned by the Commission against Corruption and Economic Sabotage.

Since it was established by President Gnassingbe Eyadema in January, the Commission has investigated several public and private sector directors over allegations of corruption and embezzlement.
